Having an energy efficient property not only saves you money on your utility bills, but it is a more comfortable environment to be in.
Did your know, your home and office room temperatures are important to your health. If you live in temperatures below 18 C, it can lead to heart attack and strokes. Ideally you want to keep living areas at 21 C and Bedrooms at 18 C for optimum health. Inadequate heating can also lead to condensation problems in the home.
Here is an article from the Citizens Advise Bureau that may be of help if you are having trouble affording your heating bill.
Here is an article from WHO Housing Guidelines worth a read!
Cold air inflames lungs and inhibits circulation, increasing the risk of respiratory conditions, such as asthma attacks or symptoms, worsening of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and infection. Cold also induces vasoconstriction, which causes stress to the circulatory system that can lead to cardiovascular effects, including ischaemic heart disease (IHD), coronary heart disease, strokes, subarachnoid haemorrhage and death . Most of the evidence for the impact of cold on health comes from studies connecting outdoor temperatures to health outcomes. For example, cold spells are associated with increased mortality and respiratory and cardiovascular morbidity, and mortality and morbidity rates in countries with cold and temperate climates are higher in winter than in summer.
Buildings too hot can be a problem too, for people who work in conditions where there is a lot of heat generated for example ovens in bakeries. Heat stress can be an issue.
So it is important we can control our environment when indoors.
Energy Efficiency is also important to combat global warming and reducing carbon emissions. So if our property is not insulated or our heating systems are sub standard we will consume more gas and electricity. Gas is a depleting resource so we want to use it wisely.
If your home is properly insulated you could be saving hundreds of £££ a year on your heating bill and reducing your carbon foot print. And not to mention, it will be a warmer and more comfortable place to be.
Put in those low energy lights too! Turn off lights when your are not in a room. For business, put in motion sensors or timers.
