Insulation Is Key

Loft and cavity wall insulation is Key to everyone in the U.K. No excuse not to have this done. It saves carbon emissions, reduces your energy bills and keeps your home warmer!

Properly insulated properties reduce your carbon emissions. Your property can retain 25% of it's heat just by insulating your loft, and 35% by having your cavity walls filled. Cavity wall insulation is a simple solution which can reduce heat loss in your walls by up to 60%. This could save you up to $350 (£200 GBP) per year on a your heating bills, if your home is currently poorly insulated.

Get it insulated!

Cavity Wall Insulation stores the heat within the inner walls, bouncing it back into the room and holding it for longer. This gives you a more even temperature and gets rid of the draughts that come down from the walls.

The cavity is located between the inner and outer brickwork of the property (show picture)The main materials used by NIA installers are Mineral Wool (Glass or Rock Wool), EPS Bead (Polystyrene bead) and PU Foam (Polyurethane Foam)Cavity Wall Insulation can lower your heating bills, lower wear and tear on your boiler and reduce global warming and climate change CIGA (Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency) issue an independent 25 year guarantee covering defects in materials and workmanship. There is also a 25 year insurance backed guarantee available for PU Foam. The recommended cavity width is 50mm Cavity Wall Insulation can give you an annual saving of up to  £275. There are a number of grants and schemes available to home owners which can substantially reduce the cost of installing these product.

The cavity wall is injected with insulating material by drilling holes in the external wall, through the mortar joint. Holes are generally of 22-25mm diameter and are ‘made good’ after injection. Each hole is injected in turn, starting at the bottom.

Cavity wall insulation does not cause damp! The modern materials used do not allow for moisture to transfer between the external brick work and the internal brick/block. When they first started filling cavities, they used materials such as paper and wool. These materials can transfer moisture between the external and internal wall. If you suspect you have this older material it can be removed.
